The Glock 47 was developed specifically for the US Customs and Border Protection (CBP). It was a custom model intended to serve as the primary service weapon for CBP agents.

Glock announced the development of the G47 in 2019. Glock has announced that it has no plans to release the G47 to the civilian population, but many in the industry expect the company to sell the G47 to the civilian population or release a comparable model due to interest in the rifle.

The Glock G47 was announced in 2019. The Austrian gunmaker has contracted with the CBP to create a customized Glock to meet their specific needs.

The G47 was part of an $85 million deal as the agency wanted to get rid of the H&K P2000 and replace it with Glocks. The agency will now use the Glock 26, Glock 19 and Glock 47.

The G47 is not an entirely new creation. It is designed to include some of Glock's most popular pistols, including the Glock 17, Glock 19 and Glock 45. Glock G45 frame

Glock 19 Gen 5 Review: 3500+ Round Report

Glock has revealed that the G47 uses the G45 frame, a more crossover model based on the G45 frame. The Glock 17 remains one of the most popular Glock pistols.

Most military and law enforcement professionals are familiar with the feel and weight of the G17. It's lightweight yet comfortable to hold and throw. The G17 frame allows for better retention, which helps with jump and accuracy. Includes full size slide

The G47 was built with a full-size slide instead of the compact slide found on the G19. The larger slide is compatible with sights and other accessories for the smaller G19 pistol.

The G47 has a 4.5 inch barrel, identical to the original Glock 17. A longer slide allows for a longer barrel and greater accuracy. However, if you prefer the shorter G19 slide, you can swap it out for the standard slide on the G47. It supports various magazines

The Glock G47 feeds from the same 17-round double-stack magazines used in the G17. You can also use magazines designed for the G19X, G34 and G45 models. Alternatives

Since the G47 is not publicly available, you may want to consider one of these alternatives:

The Glock 47 is based on the Glock 45, making the G45 a natural alternative to the limited edition model. The G45 has a shorter slide found on the G19, but includes a full-size frame for a better grip.

The Glock 19 is a compact 9mm semi-automatic pistol. The overall and barrel length are shorter compared to the G45 and G47, which may appeal to those who want something lighter for concealment or as a backup. Result

The Glock 47 is a crossover designed by Glock for the US Customs and Border Protection. Features the Glock 17, a full slide frame that works with parts designed for the smaller Glock 19.

As with the pistols based on it, the Glock 47 should be a reliable pistol. It comes from a trusted manufacturer but is not currently available for sale to the general public.

For those interested in the Glock 47, keep an eye out for Glock announcements as the G47 may finally be available to everyone.

Why You Can't Buy The Glock 47 Gun (only U.s. Customs And Border Protection Have Them)

Brady Kirkpatrick is the editor of Gun Made magazine. Brady is a gun owner from Omaha, Nebraska. Gun Made has been featured in Forbes, Officer.com, American Police Beat and many other publications. Earlier this spring, a number of handguns and rumors surfaced indicating that Glock would be adding several new pistols to its Gen5 product line.

Glock was quick to comment. An Austrian gun manufacturer is indeed releasing a new pistol called the Glock 47, but there's a catch: you can't own it.

On April 9, US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) announced an $85 million contract with Glock to "provide CBP law enforcement officers with the next generation of standard firearms." It has been announced that CPB will phase out its current HK P2000 pistol in .40 S&W in favor of three Glock Gen5 9mm pistols: the Glock 26, the Glock 19 and the mysterious Glock 47.

Glock 47 Vs 17

The Glock 47 is not a consumer product; for the avoidance of doubt, the words "DHS CPB" are even written on slide G47. Although billed as a new model, the G47 does not offer any new features, but rather is a crossover pistol that combines design elements from Glock's most popular pistols to meet the needs of the CPB's specific agency. The G47 differs from the Glock 17 in barrel length, but does not accept the G17 slide. However, it is compatible with 17-round magazines from various Glock pistols; namely G17, G19X, G34 and G45. Like the other two pistols in the CPB deal, the G47 features an extended magwell for faster loading, AmeriGlo BOLD sights on the front and rear of the slide for extra tactile space, and a Glock Marksman Barrel (GMB) that offers an improved rifle.

What Is A Glock Switch? How A Small Device Turns Handguns Into Machine Guns

Glock's G47 calling card "includes a full-size slide with a G45 frame." But an outside observer might wonder why there was a need to produce such a product in the first place, and rightly so. What is the practical appeal of a pistol that doesn't add anything new, but simply borrows a mix of existing Gen5 design features from other Glock pistols? For consumers, the clear answer is almost nothing; and in fairness to Glock, the manufacturer has worked hard to ensure that the G47 is not a consumer product.

But consider the Glock 47 from the perspective of an extended federal agency like the CPB. The G47 is essentially a G17-sized pistol that is fully compatible with the smaller CBP G19. This gives CPB agents access to G19 and G17-level capabilities, but without the need to spend departmental resources on individual G17 components. Not only does CBP save on initial parts costs, but there are also long-term savings by not having to manage two separate maintenance and repair channels.

The $85 million CBP deal marks a major milestone in Glock's joint push into the US federal law enforcement space after the popular G17 first gained prominence in the US consumer firearms and local police market in 1980. Soon, it was announced that later this summer the US Secret Service will replace the .357 Sig Sauer pistol with a 9mm Glock alternative.

Three years ago, GLOCK announced an agreement with Customs and Border Protection (CBP) to supply three pistols. GLOCK 26 Gen 5, GLOCK 19 MOS Gen 5 and the new model: GLOCK 47. The new GLOCK 47 is the same length, width and height as the GLOCK 17 Gen 5 - so what's the big deal? At the time, it was only available to CBP/law enforcement retailers. But when we finally sit down, ahead of the G47's consumer release, it's our job to explain why this is an important step in GLOCK's perfection revolution.
